The inspiration for the 'Lu' chair came from a gap Accordi noticed in the market. He saw a need for a chair that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also easily transportable, much like a suitcase. This led him to design a chair that could be folded and carried anywhere, making it perfect for those with limited space or those who frequently travel.
What sets the 'Lu' chair apart from other designs is its unique combination of beauty and practicality. It is not just a chair, but a piece of art that can be easily transported and stored. The backrest and legs fold and join together with a rubber strap, which doubles as a handle. This innovative design allows the chair to be easily packed and transported, making it a perfect piece for those on the go.
The 'Lu' chair is made using a plywood mold, with a hard rubber tongue and legs cut and folded from metal. The back of the chair is also milled from plywood, adding to the chair's unique aesthetic. The chair measures 540 mm x 520 mm x 840 mm, and when packed, it measures 580 mm x 540 mm x 200 mm, making it compact and easy to carry.
The 'Lu' chair was designed and created in Padova, Italy, with the project starting in February 2021 and finishing in March 2021. The name 'Lu' derives from 'luggage', reflecting the chair's easy portability. The chair is suitable for a wide range of audiences, from those who appreciate elegant and sophisticated design to a younger, fashion-conscious demographic.
The 'Lu' chair is a testament to Accordi's innovative design approach and his ability to overcome design challenges. He has successfully created a piece that is both beautiful and useful, and that is recognisable in the best sense of the word. The 'Lu' chair is not just a piece of furniture, but a symbol of design innovation and elegance.
Accordi's 'Lu' chair is a shining example of how design can transform everyday objects into works of art. It is a testament to the power of innovation and the potential of design to create products that are not only beautiful but also practical and functional. The 'Lu' chair is a true revolution in furniture design, and a deserving winner of the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2021.
